“Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul…there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing child-like appetite of what’s next, and the joy of the game of living.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns and operates Bethesda Home?
Bethesda Home is proud to be a community-minded, independent, locally owned and operated non-profit for all of our 100+-year history. A not-for-profit Illinois corporation, Norwegian Lutheran Bethesda Home Association, Inc., owns and operates Bethesda Home. A volunteer Board of Directors guides business affairs. The Chief Executive Officer oversees daily operations, and experienced staff manage various departments.

How does one apply for admission into Bethesda Home?
You may acquire an admissions information packet by calling, e-mailing, or stopping by Bethesda Home. We encourage you to review the materials, then call to arrange for a tour of Bethesda Home. Or, if you are ready to apply, click here to download a copy of our admissions application.

Do I need to be Lutheran to live here?
No. Our residents and staff adhere to many different denominations and faiths. We are proud of this diversity and Bethesda Home does not discriminate in any way. Worship services are interdenominational and open to anyone who wishes to participate.

May I furnish my own room at Bethesda?
Yes. Although Sheltered Care rooms are furnished with a bed and dresser, a treasured curio cabinet or special lounge chair will help a new resident feel at home. Intermediate and Skilled Care rooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe and nightstand. Residents often bring pictures, pillows, afghans or other decorative items that make their surroundings more home-like and cheerful. Health Care Center residents are also encouraged to personalize their rooms with similar items.

May I use a TV, radio or other electrical appliance in my room?
Yes. Televisions and radios are welcomed and a central antennae hook-up is provided for improved TV reception. Because of concern for resident safety, however, other appliances such as hot plates or coffee pots are not permitted in the Health Care Center.

When can my friends and family visit?
Visitors are welcome at any time as long as the resident's wishes are observed, including regard for his or her personal schedule. Guests should sign the guest register in the front lobby and wear an identification badge during their visit. The front lobby is open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily.
