Philosophy
of Care
At Bethesda Home, we don’t fear the aging
process; we embrace it as part of life. We believe
in an energetic and vibrant long-term care community,
where residents have choices, where they feel
affirmed, and where they are purposefully engaged
in a meaningful life.
Whether his or her health requires
sheltered care, intermediate care or Medicare-certified
skilled nursing care, we want each resident to
achieve the highest degree of independence possible.
We are committed to helping them achieve their
potential.
We are in the midst of a culture
change to person-centered care,
following a household model rather than an institutional
model. This innovative concept is a philosophy
of care that promotes resident autonomy
and control.
Decisions about daily schedules,
leisure time activities and care plan goals are
made in a way that supports resident needs and
wishes.
Bethesda Home believes this
is a better way because:
- It feels like home,
not an institution.
- It honors individual
schedules, rather than forcing all
residents to abide by one set schedule.
- It focuses on individual
needs and wishes, not staff efficiency.
- It offers staff a chance
to develop relationships, rather
than simply complete tasks.
- It creates community
and a sense of belonging.
